The House

Callakille is a beautiful, white washed crofter’s cottage, tastefully modernised throughout whilst carefully preserving its traditional cottage charm. It can be reached by a track, and has its own water supply and limited mobile reception. Recent renovation has included the addition of a new bathroom with a fabulous roll top bath with views over the water, a large shower, and under floor heating. There is now an extended kitchen dining area, installation of beautiful oak flooring on the lower level, and of traditional dormers windows with panel shutters in the bedrooms. This and the thoughtful furnishing and decoration makes this a unique holiday place.

The Property

The cottage’s unrivalled position makes it a peaceful haven where you can relax, unwind and perhaps sample some of the coastal and mountain walks and great sea and trout fishing.   It enjoys spectacular views from the kitchen, lounge and bedrooms over the Inner Sound of Raasay to Rona, Raasay and the Cuillin mountains on Skye.  On a clear day the mountain landscapes of the Outer Hebrides are visible. There are beautiful sandy beaches a mile away at Sand and also at nearby Cuaig.  The croft is perfect for enjoying magnificent west coast sunsets or on a clear night, stargazing.

Situated eight miles north of Appleccross village on the unforgettable Applecross peninsular, this is a particularly scenic stretch of the West Coast of Scotland, recently made famous through "Monty Halls Great Escape" TV programme and renowned for its wonderful marine life and for having the highest road pass in the UK, the Bealach na Ba.

The village of Applecross itself has two restaurants especially worth a visit, The Potting Shed and The Applecross Inn both serving locally caught fish. Also at Applecross village is a local shop for the necessities with a Post Office and petrol pump and for coffee and cake there's the Flower Tunnel at the campsite. The larger village of Lochcarron is 28 miles and Inverness is 80 miles away.

The Gaelic name for the area of Applecross is 'a Chomraich' which means 'The Sanctuary'. You will understand, immediately when you arrive, why it was given this name, as it is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful and remote wilderness areas on the west coast of Scotland, lying between the Scottish mainland mountain masses and the Isle of Skye.
